"Why I Choose a Gun" by Peter van Uhm

The video "Why I Choose a Gun" by Peter van Uhm talks about how guns helped shape the world as it is today. He argues that the good use of guns is what keeps the relative peace in developed countries.  Peter van Uhm is not pro-war but he is advocating that guns can help make the world a better place by standing the people that want to use violence as means of control. He also mentioned that the world has realized that making war is not so profitable, as trading where there is a mutual benefit by the involved parties.  Peter van Uhm makes a good point in mentioning that using guns for peace keeping has made people live safer than in times where there was less control of weapons. His use of ethos helps his audience side with him by realizing that there is not as much violence right now as there was in the past. He also uses pathos by talking about the invasion of The Netherlands by Germany in WWII where his grandfather could not stand for his freedom with an obsolete weapon, that story tells the audience that the good use of weapons is needed to stand bad people. He also uses appeals to the logic by saying that weapons are an instrument of peace and not something to brag about. Peter van Uhm makes it easy for the audience to side with him and understand that the good use of guns helps to keep the peace as we know.

Week 12 Op-Ed Analysis

This article, like most from the New York Times, does everything right in terms of credible research and properly presented material. It is very useful for my research because it shows how nothing is being done to fix the domestic violence problem that is sweeping the United States and growing rapidly as each year passes. They rather concentrate on other problems than on something that is very important. Senate is a big problem in terms of decreasing domestic violence. They take their time by focusing on things that are not as important such as same sex marriage. To me, putting a stop to domestic violence and saving peoples lives is more important than allowing two people who love each other get married. It includes how the Republicans are making it difficult and are ignoring Obama. Instead the bill included what ever they wanted and it really had no potential. This opinion piece really helps me because it has a good format. It also has enough information and is too long to make it boring. This piece also had a good conclusion and had a lot of credible sources. I plan on providing as much sources as I can to support all of my information.
